Data Nexus (April 2026)
Data Nexus delivers enhancements designed to increase the speed and stability of Numerator’s world-class panel data. It expands the data sources powering our flexible OmniCalibration Engine, fine-tunes panelist handling for smoother trends, and delivers faster, near-real-time attribution via increased automation.
What Does Data Nexus Improve?
Data Nexus will feature three main data improvements:
A more complete and reliable reflection of total-market behavior through expanded benchmarks and additional data sources (retailer sales data and third party consumer spend data)
Fine-tuning panelist and outlier handling to achieve a more representative view of today’s shopper
Real-time attribution powered by generative AI, enabling attribution of long tail items and faster time to insights for new items going forward
What Should I Expect?
Data Nexus strengthens Numerator’s industry-leading data science and processes to deliver more stable, representative insights faster.
Upon launch you’ll notice:
Greater calibration and data stability
Stronger panel representativeness and smoother trends through refined handling of outlier spending and panelist tenure
Faster time to insight through real-time attribution
Calibration Updates
Numerator uses calibration as a process to adjust raw data so that it better aligns with external benchmarks, including public financials, government data, and trusted third-party sources.
Updates to Calibration with Data Nexus:
Consumer spend data will become one of the many benchmarks we use to calibrate our total retailer data, for a list of 20+ top retailers. This monthly data will help to smooth calibration in the period before quarterly or annual benchmarks are available. Shifts in the data due to the addition of official quarterly or annual benchmarks are expected to be smaller with consumer spend data calibration in place
Today, we use retailer sales data from retailer partners to calibrate total store behavior. With Data Nexus, we will be expanding usage to include calibrations down to the major category and parent brand level at select retailers, for the Hair and Beverage departments.
Both consumer spend data and retailer sales data updates will apply as far back as 2019 forward.
Outlier Updates
In panel data, outliers represent households whose purchasing behavior differs markedly from the average. With the release of Data Nexus we are increasing the sophistication of our outlier detection model when selecting panel statics. About 0.5-1% of panelists within each static–those whose household spend atypically differs from the norm for their income levels and household sizes–have been replaced with more representative households
In addition, gone are the days of having to remove these outliers manually via people group filters! With the introduction of Custom Statics in Data Nexus category or brand specific outliers can be excluded at the insights level, meaning all license holders at an organization can run reports with custom outliers automatically excluded.
Real-Time Attribution
When it comes to real-time attribution the name of the game is speed. With the addition of this feature we are able to assign items via automation as they come into our system rather than waiting for manual maintenance. This allows us to not only add these items more quickly but also with greater coverage and consistency.
