About New Item Tags
New items must be manually tagged in the Numerator database before they can be used in a New Item In-Platform Survey. Some users may already have New items tagged and available in the platform due to their organization’s access to the New Item Module, while others will need to follow the steps outlined below to get New Item tags created.
If You Have Access to the New Item Module (Insights Panel)
If your New Item is already tagged, you can use it immediately in the New Item Survey - no additional steps required.
If your New Item is not yet tagged, you can either:
Work with your Numerator Consultant to have it created OR
Follow the request process outlined below
If You Do Not Have Access to the New Item Module (Insights):
You will need to request a New Item tag using the process outlined below.
New Item Tagging: Key Details
1 Credit (300 Completes) per request
Up to 5 tags (items) per request
Up to 10 UPCs per tag
All tags must be within the same general category
Tags typically take 5-8 business days to complete
How tags work:
Tags are how you group like items together.
Each tag functions as an item in the platform.
Tags can include multiple UPCs (up to 10 per tag).
Tags must be created within the same general category. Mixing unrelated categories is not supported.
How to Structure Your New Item Tags
Plan for Analysis Upfront
Your tag structure directly determines what you can compare in your results.
Survey results are reported by quota group. Quota groups are created with these tags.
Tags can include multiple UPCs or just one, based on your business objective.
Tags can be grouped within one Quota Group
To see item-level results, each item must have:
Its own tag and
Its own quota group
Common ways to structure tags include:
By flavor or variety
By pack size or format
By brand or competitive set
By product benefit
Example:
If you want to compare Lucky Charms Protein Cereal vs. Cinnamon Toast Crunch Protein Cereal, you would want to create separate tags for each.
If you group them into one “Protein Cereal” tag, results will be combined and not separable
Granularity vs. Sample Size
There’s a tradeoff to consider when structuring your tags:
More granular tags provide more flexibility when setting up Quota groups. However, smaller sample sizes can impact timing.
Tags of grouped items provide a larger sample size, making it easier to hit sample quotas. However, there is less ability to break out results later in the platform or in guaranteeing samples by upc.
Pro Tip: When in doubt, start granular - you can group items later, but you can’t split them after the fact.
