About Survey Translations

Survey Translations allow you to offer your In-Platform Survey in multiple languages, giving panelists the option to respond in the language they're most comfortable using.

You can build your questionnaire in a primary language and translate it into up to two additional languages. The platform automatically generates the translations, which you can review and edit before launching your survey.

Supported languages include:

  • English

  • French

  • German

  • Spanish

  • Korean

  • Turkish

  • Arabic

  • Russian

Good to Know: The language you use to build your questionnaire becomes the primary language for your survey. For example, if you build your survey in English and add German and Spanish translations, English remains the primary language.

Add Translations to Your Survey

You can add translations while building your survey using the Translations option at the top of the survey builder.

  1. Open your In-Platform Survey.

  2. Select the Translations option near the top of the page.

  3. Choose up to two additional languages for your survey.

  4. Allow the platform to generate the translations. This may take a moment, depending on the length of your questionnaire.

  5. Review the translated content and make any needed edits.

Good to Know: Translations may take a few moments to generate, depending on the length and complexity of your questionnaire. Allow time for the translations to finish loading before reviewing or editing them.

Review and Edit Translations

Once your translations are generated, you can review and edit them directly in the translation editor. Simply click into any field to make changes as needed. Once you're finished, click Apply Changes to save your translations.

We recommend finalizing your questionnaire in its primary language before generating translations. If you add or edit questions afterward, you'll need to revisit the translation editor to update the affected translations before proceeding with your survey.

Good to Know: When using piped variables or product- and category-specific information, some values may appear in their original language rather than the selected translation. This can result in mixed-language text or awkward phrasing. Be sure to review these questions carefully in each translated version of your survey.

Preview Your Translated Survey

Before launching, use Survey Preview to review your questionnaire in each available language.

As you preview, check that:

  • Question wording and answer options are translated correctly.

  • Product names, terminology, and other important details appear as intended.

  • Images and formatting display correctly.

  • Questionnaire logic and the overall survey flow work as expected.

Best Practice: Preview each translated version of your survey before launch, especially if your questionnaire includes complex wording, product-specific terminology, or customized questions.

How Panelists Experience Translated Surveys

When multiple languages are available, panelists are prompted to select their preferred language before beginning the survey. Their selection determines which language version of the questionnaire they’ll see, allowing them to complete the survey in their preferred language.

This language selection screener question does not count toward your survey’s question limit and cannot be edited or removed.

Based on their selection, panelists are directed to the corresponding language version of the survey.

Good to Know: A panelist's survey language does not have to match their app language. For example, a panelist using the app in German may still choose to complete an available survey in English.

Survey Results & Translations

Once your survey results are available, you can view your Survey Report in any of the languages included when the survey launched.

To switch languages, click the Translation icon at the top of the Survey Report and select the language you’d like to view.

Good to Know: Changing the reporting language only changes how the survey questions and answer options are displayed. It does not filter results by the language panelists selected or translate their written responses. For example, if you switch your report to Spanish, you’ll still see results from all panelists, and any open-ended responses submitted in English will remain in English.

Raw Data & Exports

The Raw Data tab and export include a column indicating which language each panelist selected when completing the survey.

Data downloads and exports are provided in the survey's primary language, regardless of the language selected in the Survey Report.

Survey Translation Considerations & Best Practices

  • Choose your primary language carefully: Build your survey in the language most panelists are expected to use. This becomes the primary language for your questionnaire and data exports.

  • Finalize your questionnaire first: Adding or editing questions after generating translations requires you to revisit and update the translations before proceeding.

  • Allow time for translations: Translations may take a few moments to generate, depending on the length and complexity of your questionnaire.

  • Review translated content: Check for accuracy, especially when using product names, industry terminology, or context-specific wording.

  • Check piped variables: Piped values and product- or category-specific information may appear in their original language, even when the surrounding question is translated.

  • Preview each language: Use Survey Preview to check the questionnaire and panelist experience in every available language.

  • Plan ahead: Translations must be added before launch and cannot be added retroactively once your survey is fielding.
