Before launching your survey, we recommend taking a few minutes to review it from a panelist’s perspective. Survey Preview makes it easy to validate question formatting, test survey logic, and ensure panelists will have the experience you intend.
We recommend reviewing every survey using the three-pass process below.
Pass 1: Review Each Question as You Build
As you build your survey, we encourage you to preview each question after programming it. Reviewing questions one at a time makes it easier to catch formatting issues, typos, and logic errors while the question is still fresh in your mind. This is also a great time to quickly validate simple logic, such as Disqualify logic.
To preview the question, simply click the ellipsis (...) by the question and then select Preview Question.
From there you can preview the question from the panelist’s perspective.
Pass 2: Complete the Survey from Start to Finish
After you have programmed your final question, we recommend completing the survey from start to finish, exactly as a panelist would. This gives you the full panelist experience and is a helpful way to check the overall flow of the survey.
During this pass, this is also a great time to check any complex logic you’ve programmed in your survey.
Here are some recommended things to check:
Test Each Quota Group. Preview the survey from each quota group’s perspective to verify group-specific questions, logic, answer options, and survey paths.
Validate Disqualify Logic. Answer screener questions using responses that should disqualify a panelist. If configured correctly, the survey should end and display the Survey End Page.
Validate Skip Logic. Answer questions in multiple ways to verify that questions using Ask This Question If behave as expected.
Validate Advanced Survey Features. If your survey includes features like Carry Forward Responses, Answer Options Logic, Add Previous Answer, or dynamic variables, verify that each behaves as expected throughout the survey.
Review the Overall Survey Experience. As you complete the survey, review it from the panelist’s perspective. In addition to checking the overall flow, verify that the built-in question instructions and validation messages are clear and behave as expected. Ask yourself:
Does this survey flow naturally?
Are any questions repetitive or off-topic?
Can any questions be removed to reduce respondent fatigue?
Do validation messages reflect your question settings, such as selection limits, character limits, or numeric ranges?
Note: Question instructions and validation messages are automatically generated based on the question type and settings. These messages cannot be customized or overridden.
Pass 3: Get a Fresh Set of Eyes
Finally, we always recommend sharing the public review link with a colleague or stakeholder for a final review. A fresh perspective can help identify unclear wording, formatting inconsistencies, or other issues that may be easy to overlook after building the survey yourself. Because the preview link is public, reviewers do not need a Numerator login to view the survey.
Spending a few extra minutes reviewing your survey before launch can help illuminate blind spots and create a smoother experience for both you and your panelists.
